Split Testing is a key service offering for us at Scale Beyond, and we’ve been at the forefront of delivering world leading CVO/CRO split testing programmes, across multiple high growth ecommerce brands (and multiple different ecommerce platforms), for decades. Many CRO agencies simply don’t understand ecommerce and how users interact with websites, but we do.

Expert split testing managementproducing repeatable results
At Scale Beyond, our holistic approach to CVO means we’re not just focused on a single metric of conversion rate; we’re instead taking a full overview of how we can improve revenue and profit for your business. We’ve run extensive split testing campaigns for leading brands like Grenade, Brook Taverner, UK Water Filters, Hayloft Plants and many more.
Split testing isn’t just a bolt on service for us (many development and marketing agencies simply up-sell testing as an extra service, often using offshore white label support), it’s integral to our CVO offering and 100% managed in house.
The traditional CRO agency model is basically to throw up as many tests as possible on your website and hope some achieve “winning” status.

But the actual reality of testing (and what is often not understood or not shared by those practicing CRO) is that even if your split-testing software says with “99% certainty” that one version of a test is better than another, it’s effectively meaningless without understanding the full context behind a test.
Many agencies practicing CRO and CVO still don’t understand this, but at Scale Beyond, we do, and it’s integral to how we approach split testing for all our clients.
Without that understanding, you’ll end up implementing split test changes that seemingly “guarantee” improvements in the performance of key ecommerce metrics, but then you’ll see no real benefit from those changes over an extended period of time.
We speak to ecommerce businesses regularly who find themselves in that position; they’ve been promised “guaranteed” improvements from split tests, but see no measurable difference to revenue/profit over an extended period once those changes are implemented.

Our Split Testing management process has been developed over many years to offer maximum ROI to our clients; it’s effectively just two key stages:
- Planning and Setup
- Ongoing Testing Management
At the planning stage, we’ll produce an initial plan of ideas we would like to test on your site as well as well as set up everything needed to begin testing. Note we don’t just work with a single ecommerce platform (like Shopify); as genuine ecommerce split testing specialists, we have implemented testing programmes across a range of ecommerce platforms (including completely bespoke systems). We may need your development team to implement some code for us, but we’ll provide full details and guidance on how to do this.
We’ll also ask for access at this stage to your Google Analytics account (or equivalent) and your session recording system so we can visually see existing user behaviour. If you don’t already have a screen recording system in place, we recommend the free software Microsoft Clarity; this is easy to implement but we can set up for you if required.
Once the setup stage is complete, we then move into our ongoing Split Testing Management service. To run website split tests, we partner with leading split testing software provider Convert.com, who have been at the forefront of website split testing for over 10 years.
Convert.com offers a great range of functionality and a relatively simple technical integration across all ecommerce platforms; we’ll provide full instructions to your developers on how to integrate the platform into your website. All professional split testing platforms come with a significant monthly cost, however to streamline the implementation and management of your split tests, we manage all your tests within our own Convert.com account. This means we can eliminate the cost to you of a split testing platform as we effectively include this free* as part of our monthly split testing management fee.
Our CVO split testing management (and indeed the split testing plan we create as part of the initial CVO process) focuses 100% on tests that will actually make a difference to key site metrics (not just changing button colours or the background of a banner).
We also implement a range of best practice measures to ensure test results are valid. This includes A/B/A testing as standard, really focusing on micro rather than macro conversion data, avoiding site wide split tests wherever possible, avoiding overlapping test conflicts, and also multiple re-runs of the same test if necessary.
Our split testing service is designed to run with minimal input from you as client; we will work through and evaluate existing tests as well as launching new tests based on our experience and expertise.
You will have live visibility of running tests (both via a Google Sheet and direct access to Convert.com) and will receive a monthly update detailing test performance, any recommendations for implementation and also details around planned future tests.
We don’t however include any feedback loop for you to approve planned tests, or provide updates outside of those listed above, as this would increase the time required (and therefore the cost) for our split testing management service significantly. This structure is the key reason our split testing management service is so affordable (given our huge experience and expertise) versus other agencies. Note that we will provide a project area for you to suggest future test ideas however, and we always actively welcome your ideas for tests as part of the service.
After we achieve a winning A/B/A test result (which we believe is genuinely repeatable), as well as detailing this in your monthly update report, we’ll also post this in your project area as a development recommendation. This recommendation will provide all the detail needed for you to pass on to your developers to implement the winning test changes on your chosen platform.
Once a test is concluded, we’re not able to keep the winning version running in Convert.com as in addition to the management overhead for us, Convert.com impose significant fees to do this, which we would have to then pass on to you. Instead, we are able to implement winning tests for you free in Google Tag Manager (where possible) to allow you to see continued benefits from winning tests whilst waiting for the full development implementation to be completed. We’re able to offer this service as we hand code all our tests (rather than relying on testing tool visual editors). Note Google Tag Manager deployments are intended as a temporary measure; for many reasons we would always recommend properly implementing winning tests via your ecommerce platform as soon as possible.

Despite our level of expertise and fantastic past and present client list, our split testing management service is purposely built to be very affordable for any ecommerce business generating enough orders to make the service worthwhile.
We include any split testing software (Convert.com) fees within our fee (saving you a significant amount versus purchasing direct) and the structured nature of our service (see the tab above for how the service works) cuts out many of the unnecessary elements of a normal CRO agency service, thus reducing the cost further – click here to learn more about how we are able to do this
